Child Drowning Prevention Specialist Training Summary

Each applicant must be accepted following two interviews (one interview is with CDP and the other is with the assigned Principal Instructor) and fill out the personal information form in full. Applicant is responsible for the training fee and all applicant's expenses.

Each student instructor receives a minimum of 16 hours per week of hands on in-water experience with a variety of children, ages 6 months to 6 years, over a 5-6 week period. The training program includes instruction in teaching breath control, propulsion, rollover to float position, stabilization of float, breathing, confidence in survival skills (helping to reduce panic in an unexpected emergency), and transitional stroke development.

Academic Education and Certification
Academic training includes child development and behavioral techniques as they apply to teaching infants and young children to swim and survive in the water. Also included is a self-study course on anatomy and physiology, including safety guidelines for swimming lessons. A certificate of completion is presented at the end of the program, emphasizing all of the in-water and academic work that has been completed. CPR and First Aid is a necessary requirement, and must be maintained yearly.
